This one is in response to the Herald's call for articles about Heroes, printed in the Herald April 25:
I Know A Hero
By Lucas Marri
I know who my hero is, but in order to say he is a hero, I had to really think what a hero is to me. A hero to me is someone who I want to be like, and has achieved great things. Someone who is extraordinary by following their dreams and not giving up. Someone who puts their needs and desires aside to benefit others. My hero fits all of these.
My name is Lucas Marri and I just turned 13. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to fly. I think that my first thought was an airplane design. All the money that I get goes to my bank account to go towards my pilot's license. When my mom and I moved here, I just wanted to know if there was an airport. I didn't dream there was a hero at the airport.
I think it is a good time to tell you about my hero, Mario Maccarone. Mario is an A&P (airplane mechanic). He was home-schooled, like me, and he loves aviation as much as me. Mario has achieved greatness by owning his own airplane and owning his own business. He is extraordinary because he hasn't given up on his dream to build an airplane, even though he has had to start over three times since he was 13.
Mario helped others accomplish their dreams. Any person who is interested in aviation, he will do everything he can to help them. Mario takes me flying and shares his knowledge with me, and takes his time to show me how to be an A&P and he believes in my dreams.
I want to thank Mario, and let him know that I want to be just like him for all these reasons and more, I want him to know he is my hero.
