January's Social Event

>

The Social Events on Jan 3 and Jan 11 involved a scavenger hunt, relays, balancing games, refreshments, and a lot of balloons.  The 3 main activities revolved around the Native American culture:  Make a Medicine Wheel, the Walk of Life, and Balancing Games.

Skills developed included the physical skills of balance, and the social skills of leadership and volunteerism.  Creativity was encouraged.

24 children, 7 teens, 7 adults, and 2 elderly participated.

How to Make A Medicine Wheel

Group leaders wore hats.  I wore a hat too,  'cuz I like to wear these hats.

Creative Balloon Popping

Clues were hidden in some balloons

The scavenger hunt is culturally referred to as a 'Vision Quest'.

Youth collected the clues by popping the balloon.

Some youth were reluctant to let the last balloons go, but in the end, they popped them.

Clean-up is a volunteer activity that most people avoid.  Part of a social event's purpose is to make it fun.
