Sierra County Youth and Education Council Awarded Grant
The Sierra County Youth and Education Council has been awarded $40,000 by the Turner Foundation for the purpose of facilitating positive youth development in Sierra County. The Council is composed of an adult and youth representative from seven youth service agencies in Sierra County.

· Court Appointed Special Advocates
· Manzano School
· PowerHouse! Youth Center
· Sierra County Home-school Association
· Truth or Consequences Municipal Schools
· Sierra County 4-H Club
The youth council will use the Turner funding for organizational development and to institute a county-wide academic achievement and community engagement project for students.A series of trainings will be offered to build the capacity of the council. The youth council trainings will be open to any individual or group in the county who would like to attend. Watch our local papers for information about upcoming trainings targeted for February and April of this year.
By the close of the grant cycle, the newly reorganized council will create a strategic plan to provide direction for 2008 council activities. The Sierra County Youth and Education Council is most grateful to the Turner Foundation for its ongoing commitment to youth in Sierra County.
